Building an old-school character, finish with grimacing scowl and jerky walk-cycle, is a grounding prep for its coming gameplay experience. For the BlizzCon demonstration, we only had access to two of the previous zones, but equally iconic in their own manner. Both of these locales are where you’d wind up gold in wow classic after you’ve left your beginning zones and become the meat of this game.
From the current WoW match they would barely be a blip in your leveling travel, but for the older timers both of these locations were where WoW actually began to open up (at least for human, and orc/troll gamers ). You were thrown into a wide open area and reliable to research that’world’ you had heard a lot about.
We logged into Westfall as the demonstration began, and also the feeling of confusion among the player-base was palpable. In Classic there are no mini-map markers letting you know the locations of quest-givers, and just the slow-scrolling pursuit text to indicate where to discover the enemies you’ve been asked to take care of.
For many, this lack of leadership was clearly overwhelming. The worldwide chat was a twisted mess of gamers asking where to find gnolls and bandits, with lots of choosing out a random direction from the quest hub and striking out to explore the area, hoping to get lucky and happen upon the right kind of enemy. In current WoW, the zone was divided into two much more manageable buy wow classic gold, but in Classic it is difficult not to feel intimidated by the sheer size of the place.
Without a mount to accelerate our travel, and no markers telling us where to gowe were left to meander round the huge expanse, sometimes stumbling upon the raptors and tallstriders we had been asked to take care of. We’d been here plenty of times in the years since Vanilla, also knew the lay of this land, but with no instructions to guide us felt ourselves undergoing the Barrens as we did 14 decades ago. The world suddenly felt big, and frightening, and we had been thirsty for more.
